Checking Out Materials
Limits:
-
Students in Forms I and II may check out up to four books, magazines, or other
materials at a time.
-
Students in Forms III and IV may borrow six items.
-
Forms V, VI, and VII are allowed eight items.
-
Seniors may have as many as ten materials.
Select the materials you want to check out,
and take them to the circulation desk. The librarian will check them out to you. Each student has a patron number. If
you know this number, the checkout procedure will be faster. The date due will
be three weeks from the day you check out a book; seven days for a videotape, audiocassette, DVD, music CD, or magazine. YOU are responsible for remembering the due dates, but your record of items
borrowed can be checked in the library anytime.
You may check your own library record at any
time from school or home if you have set up a personal password with the librarian at the circulation desk. Remember
your password and keep it a secret.
Magazines are located on the shelves with the books.
Students are free to use them, but keep the magazines in order within the boxes and the boxes in order. The back issues of magazines may be checked out for a period of 7 days. Fines of ten cents per day are charged on overdue magazines. Magazines
checked out are placed in an envelope and should be returned in the protective envelope.
Current magazines are those displayed on the low bookshelves near the main seating area and
may not be checked out. The library subscribes to 45 magazines and newspapers in
print. The most current issue remains in the library for free reading until the newer issue arrives.
Overdue Materials
Return your materials as soon as you are finished
with them. Do not allow your materials to become overdue because almost all items
are renewable. Only books reserved by teachers or students - OR MATERIALS WITH
FINES DUE - are not eligible for renewal.
When you have overdue materials, your name will be placed on a list and sent to your form
master. If your name is on the overdue list, you may not check out or reserve
any materials until your record is cleared. After two weeks on the list, an email
will be sent to your parents. Clearing library accounts are the student’s
responsibility.
Lost Books and Magazines
STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL LIBRARY MATERIALS
USED AND CHECKED OUT. If you lose a borrowed item, you should notify the librarian
immediately. A student who has reported any material lost may check out one
item at a time until the lost material is found or paid for.
If items are lost, a replacement price will
be charged. The average price of a hardback book is twenty-five dollars. If you pay for a lost book and it is found during the current school year,
your money will be refunded minus a two dollar fine for hardbacks or one dollar for paperbacks.
Lost magazines usually cannot be replaced, so be very
careful with them. Magazine articles may be copied within copyright guidelines. The library has a five-cent plain-paper copier.
The Library has minimal charges for the following:
-
Overdue materials (5 to 10 cents per week day depending
on the item; no charge for holidays or weekends)
-
Copies made from Xerox copier - 5 cents per copy
-
Laser prints after the first FIVE - 5 pages per day
are free printed from computers. Beginning with the 6th page, the fee is 5 cents per page.
