More of the same
The same mix of hummingbirds continues in the yard. I can usually find 4 or 5 of them within a few minutes of walking the yard. One adult male regularly sits in the hibiscus hedge outside my bedroom window.

Also seen in the neighborhood this week was a Baltimore Oriole. Goldfinches were heard on a couple of occasions but not seen. The Chipping sparrow numbers continue to rise.

Winter is Here
Winter is here judging by the hummingbirds in the yard. Activity has increased considerably over the past couple of weeks. I'm still seeing more adults than young birds which is the opposite of past years. I believe I saw a band on one of them. This would be the first confirmed "returning" Ruby-throat if the bird can be trapped. I believe I've seen at least 5 adult male Ruby-throats and a couple of young males and one female within the past couple of days. The female Rufous continues to make her presence known. One or two additional "possible" sightings of Selasphorus have been reported in the neighborhood as well but not confirmed.

Wintering songbirds are here as well. A few Chipping Sparrows have been regulars for the past week along with a House Wren. Robins have been passing overhead the past couple of days. Palm and Yellow-rumped Warblers are also regulars. Sapsuckers have joined the usual woodpeckers in the yard along with a couple of sightings of flickers and more regular sightings of Pileated Woodpeckers.
