Arriving Winter Residents?
There has been a considerable increase in the hummer activity in the yard over the past couple of weeks. Regular hummer chatter in the yard, many more chases, and the apparent settling in of potential winter residents. Most notable has been adult male Ruby-throats regularly feeding in both corners of the backyard and a young male regularly perching in the cassia the front yard for the past week. An adult male Ruby-throat seems to have dethroned the young male this weekend. They were co-existing over the past two days, occasionally perching only a few feet apart, but the young bird has only been seen once today before being chased off by the adult.

Not too much else to report. I've not really observed any songbird migration through the yard other than a few days of vireos, Yellow-throateds and Red-eyeds
