Things are still about the same that they've been over the past couple of months. I know I have at least 6 regular hummingbirds
in the yard. That's a good number but not ideal.
The number one bird is the female Rufous back for her 6th year. Then, there's an adult male Ruby-throat regular on the
south side of the house in the hibiscus. A female Ruby-throated has been seen in the back and front yards on the left side
of the yard. Around front, there are two hummingbirds that seem to be sharing the large Cassia bicapsularis, an adult male
with a damaged bill and a young bird that I assume is a male Ruby-throat but just enough things seem slightly
different that there is hope that he'll be identified differently once he's in hand or as he matures into his adult colors.
Around the right side and to the back corner, there is a young male Ruby-throat with a fairly large portion of his gorget
grown in. Other birds, mostly adult males, have been seen sporadically in various parts of the yard but I can't consider them
regular. I've not been able to find them perching like I had in previous years.
Winter song birds moved in a couple of weeks ago on a front. Of note, I seem to have a regular catbird, a species
that has been absent the past couple of years. I also have a house wren in the yard every day. A lot of Clay-colored
Sparrows are being reported throughout the state so I'm watching closely for one of them but to date, the most chippies I've
seen at once has only been 5. I've had one sighting of an adult male Baltimore Oriole, a couple of weeks ago,
and one female last week in a yard across the street.
