Eckart Sellheim Klavier / Fortepiano

Eckart Sellheims vielseitige künstlerische Aktivitäten werden widergespiegelt in einer regen Konzerttätigkeit als Solist, Kammermusiker und Partner namhafter Sänger und Instrumentalisten, durch Verpflichtungen an Rundfunkanstalten weltweit und in einer großen Anzahl von Schallplattenaufnahmen, viele davon auf dem Fortepiano.
Zahlreiche Tourneen, meist zusammen mit seinem Bruder und langjährigem Duo-Partner, dem Cellisten Friedrich-Jürgen Sellheim, führten ihn in viele europäische Länder, in den Nahen Osten, in die USA und nach Mittel- und Südamerika. Eckart Sellheim trat u.a. mit zyklischen Aufführungen der Werke Beethovens und Schuberts (sämtliche Sonaten) hervor und hat sich um die Wiederentdeckung vergessen geglaubter Schätze der Klavier- Literatur aus Klassik und Romantik verdient gemacht.
Inzwischen liegt sein musikalischer Schwerpunkt im Klavierduo, mit seiner Ehefrau und Partnerin, der amerikanischen Pianistin Dian Baker, zählt er sehr erfolgreich zu der raren Kammermusikformation „Klavier zu vier Händen“.
Der in Danzig geborene Künstler wirkte nach mehrjähriger Lehrtätigkeit in Köln und Ann Arbor, Michigan (USA) von 1989 bis 2008 als Professor und „Director of Collaborative Piano“ an der Arizona State University in Tempe (USA). Bis Sommer 2006 war er Lehrbeauftragter für Fortepiano an der Trossinger Musikhochschule.
Eckart Sellheim gab zahlreiche Meisterkurse für Klavier, Kammermusik, Liedbegleitung, Fortepiano und historische Aufführungspraxis in Europa und den USA und ist vielgefragtes Jurymitglied der renommiertesten Musikwettbewerbe im In- und Ausland.

Eckart Sellheim Pianist

Eckart Sellheim, born in Danzig (now Gdansk, Poland) received his musical training in Germany and Switzerland. He maintains an active performance schedule as a piano and fortepiano soloist, having made concert tours in the USA, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, and throughout Europe. He appears regularly on radio programs in the USA and abroad; his numerous recordings include the complete works for violoncello and piano by Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Brahms, Schumann and Chopin with his late brother, celebrated German cellist Friedrich-Jürgen Sellheim, as well as 18th century fortepiano concertos. Eckart Sellheim has presented performance cycles of the works of Beethoven and Schubert (the complete sonatas) and has rediscovered hidden and lost treasures of the Classic and Romantic piano repertoire.
In 1998 he and his wife, American pianist Dian Baker, formed a piano duo. Since then, the Baker-Sellheim Duo has concertized successfully in the USA and Europe, exploring the vast mainstream repertoire as well as lesser-known and contemporary works for piano four-hands.
Eckart Sellheim was appointed to the faculty of the two major Conservatories in Cologne and continued his academic career as an Associate Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at the University of Michigan. From 1989 until 2008 he was Professor and Director of Collaborative Piano at Arizona State University. He also serves as a Guest lecturer of Fortepiano and Performance Practice at various music academies in Germany (most notably at the Musikhochschule in Trossingen), taught numerous master classes in the United States and in several European countries and is high in demand as an adjudicator in the USA and abroad.
