FALL QUARTERLY MEETING
When: Wednesday,
Sept 2, at 7:00
Where: The Hermitage, 1600 Westwood Ave, corner of Hermitage & Westwood.
Guest speakers
Allison Douthat & Cecily Rodriguez of the Smithdeal Center, a new community center in our area, plus DPU representatives
discussing the Stormwater Management fee issue.
PHASE TWO: The Second of Our Food Drives! Collection Day: Sept. 12!
Each
year, neighbors of Rosedale open their hearts & cabinets for our semi-annual food drive.
We have one at the beginning of summer, & one at the end, in order to help CVFB with the time of year they are
hardest hit.
Rosedale
partnered with Bellevue Civic Association this year in an effort to raise 2009 pounds of food in 2009! We are just 815 pounds away!!
Stash a little something away every time you go to the market & set it
out on your front steps where it can be seen from the street at 10 a.m. on Sept. 12.
Volunteers will drive by & pick up your donations.
ALSO!! As you know, we also collect school supplies
during this food drive! School supplies go to our local school, Holton Elementary. Go to http://www.richmond.k12.va.us/schools/holton/ to see the lists of supplies needed. Holton has a sizeable
homeless student population and can use backpacks and other much needed supplies. Anything
they can’t use goes to other RPS schools in need. Please add your donations in with your food bank donations for pick up, or bring them to 1901 W. Laburnum Avenue on
September 12!
Note from
the president
As
I type this, a beautiful cedar waxwing is perched atop my patio umbrella outside, looking very pleased with himself! I always think of Fall when I see them. We’ve
had such a mild summer, for Richmond, anyway.
But I can’t wait for the leaves to change & cooler weather to be with us.
This
is also the time of year we finish up our semi-annual Food Drive to benefit Central VA Food Bank. We are so close to the goal of 2009 pounds in 2009, and
I know you can do it, neighbors! Our
neighborhood is so blessed with kind, generous neighbors, looking out for each other.
Stash those jars of peanut butter, cans of tuna & sacks of rice now and we’ll pick them up on the 12th!
This
next meeting will be very informative. Note the guest speakers, and be sure to
come with questions!
Til
then, dear neighbors, have a lovely Fall!
Liz

SAD, BUT FOND, FAREWELLS
After nine years, our Secretary/Editor, Pat Braun, has retired from her post on the Executive Board
of the Association. She and Robert are still homeowners here, but are currently
residing on the Southside. We will miss Pat and we thank her for all the wonderful work she’s done over the years.
Also, David Curtis will be stepping down as Vice President in December. He’s still in the neighborhood and plans to be just as active, though! He has been invaluable in this position and a great help in many ways.
If you are interested in serving on the Board of the Association, please come to the September meeting
to find out what the jobs entail.
ROUNDABOUT UPDATE
The following quote from Mr. Thomas Flynn, City Transportation Engineer, regarding the status of
the roundabout, is accurate as of this writing, & Lisa Townes, of Chris Hilbert’s office concurs: “Several months ago construction bids for the A. P. Hill roundabout
were received. The bids were good (below the estimate) and an apparent low bidder selected. However, the City
Administration chose not to execute the contract due to the ordinance introduced by Mr. Hilbert that prohibits the construction
of the roundabout. The ordinance has been continued to the September Council meeting where it is scheduled to be voted
upon.”
