Handicapping

A boat's time on time handicap will be based on her current PHRF rating. The following relation will be used to convert the PHRF rating to a time on time rating,

R = 100/(PHRF/6 + 55)

The rating R will be used as a multiplier against the time taken to sail a given race to determine corrected time.

.

Example:

  1. Mariner PHRF = 285                        R = 100/(285/6 + 55) = 0.976
  2. Quickstep 24 PHRF = 240               R = 100/(240/6 + 55) = 1.053
  3. Menger 19 PHRF = 372                   R = 100/(372/6 + 55) =  0.855

Suppose that these three boats race and sail the course in the following elapsed times:

  1. elapsed 1:05:30: corrected = 3930*.976 = 3836 = 1:03:56
  2. elapsed 1:02:45: corrected = 3765*1.053 = 3965 = 1:06:05
  3. elapsed 1:17:20: corrected =  4620*0.855 = 3950 = 1:05:50

Hence, the order of finish on corrected time is A, C, B
