History of CK Ranch
CK Ranch is named after Dr.
Cyrus H Khabiri, an American, who was born in the Middle East, origin of the finest Arabian horses. After arriving in
the United States as a young man , Cyrus became an American citizen, believing wholeheartedly in the American system
of Democracy and Freedom. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and his
PhD from American University. He served the US Army and was an American Veteran. After his retirement in the 1960's Dr. Khabiri began to raise small equines at his farm here in the
United States.
Bernard K Garrettson, CK Ranch
breeding consultant, got his start in the Throughbred business as a groom, then progressed to jockey, and later managed
Woodside Stables in Oakhurst, New Jersey, home of many famous race horses. He retired from work after many years as farm
manager of Rokeby Stables in Upperville, Virginia owned by Paul Mellon. Rokeby Stables produced
world class and stakes horses in Europe and the United States. Among them is the Derby winner "Sea Hero" and Prix de
l'Arc de Triomphe
and Epson Derby winner
"Mill Reef".
CK Ranch was re-established in 2002
by Dr. Khabiri's daughter, Diana, son-in-law, Gerald Garrettson, and grand-children in honor of his memory.
in loving memory of
Dr. Cyrus H Khabiri
"Swift as a bird I flew down
many a course.
Princes, Lords, Commoners all
sang my praise
In victory or defeat I played
my part.
Remember me, all men who love
the Horse,
If hearts and spirits flag in
after days;
Though small, I gave my all.
I gave my heart" 1
His love of horses lives on...
We would like to thank Bernard K
Garrettson
for his indispensible advice and
guidance
in producing our first foals.
