The name Treaty Rock

With the exception of the falls itself, Treaty Rock is the most famous local landmark in Post Falls, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (LINK)  You will see signs on Interstate 90 and around town identifying the location.  According to local legend, in 1871 Frederick Post (the founder of Post Falls) and Chief Andrew Seltice (of the Coeur d'Alene Indian Tribe) signed a treaty on the rocks near the falls, whereby Post bought the Spokane River channels and falls that now bear his name.  There are also Native American pictographs at the site.  The town grew up around the site where Post built a dam and mill.  The falls are visible from the east-bound lanes of Interstate 90 approximately 1/4 mile before Exit #5.

The major east-west street through town, Seltice Way, is named for Chief Andrew Seltice.
