Following Marilyn's discharge from two New York City psychiatric hospitals in March 1961, she & former husband Joe DiMaggio traveled to North Redington Beach, FL, near St. Petersburg.  Amid rumors of reconciliation & remarriage, they visited the Tides Resort & Bath Club

Marilyn & Joe watched the
Yankees spring training, &
Marilyn cheered her former
husband's team. According to local lore, Marilyn built a sand castle with a young boy, Jason Dow, while asking him questions about his family.

The couple spent time together along Florida's then-rural Gulf Coast at the exclusive & secluded Tides. Built in 1936, it hosted  many celebrities. Marilyn & Joe registered in separate guest rooms in the main building. Together they strolled the beach hand-in-hand, combed the shore for sea shells, relaxed under a blue canvas cabana & retired early.

Press photographers & newsreel cameramen followed them about,
so they escaped to the resort's
rooftop for privacy. Local beach
residents, from Medeira, St.
Petersburg, Pass-A-Grille, Indian Rocks & Treasure Island, invaded the Tides' beach access for a glimpse of the two living legends.

The celebrated couple dined at the elegant White House Restaurant, now The Wine Cellar, on Gulf Boulevard. The historic Tides was
demolished in 1995, and its 1500 feet of prime  beachfront property was developed into The Tides Luxury Condominiums. The design of the many towers & clubhouse was inspired by the original Tides' architectural motif. The Monroe-DiMaggio visit is referenced in the property's marketing & advertisements.
