BIO / CREATIVE STATEMENT

My artwork embraces both the classical tenants of academic fine art painting and contemporary graphic design. While these two categories can be mutually exclusive, I attempt to incorporate both approaches when making visual art. My practical work experience in the commercial printing industry and museum technology is acknowledged when developing an image. I try to create a narrative that must be interpreted by the viewer, similar to both dream analyses and comic books. Metaphysical concepts are coupled with popular imagery in terms of symbols and cultural references.

My paintings are mixed media, acrylic and oil based mediums on stretched canvas. In general, the artwork appears in the same layout and dimensions as movie posters, that force viewers to draw their own conclusion regarding content and story. I juxtapose ironic and novel concepts that are recognizable, but create a profound realization—or lame joke. Both humor and terror are essential components of the artwork.
