A Different Gospel- Justification

At the Roman Catholic Church Council of Trent (1545-1563) there were 125 anathemas pronounced. These were reaffirmed at the Vatican II council (1962-1965)

-"If anyone shall say that justifying faith is nothing else than confidence in the divine mercy pardoning sins for Christ's sake, or that it is that confidence alone by which we are justified ... let him be accursed" (Canon 12).

This pronouncement by the Roman Catholic Church is the heart of their "different gospel".  The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians says this about the true gospel, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8)

In Paul's letter to the Galatians Paul pronounces his own anathema, "I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, ...But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed." (Galatians 1:6,8)

"...knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified." (Galatians 2:16)

 A Different Gospel- Through Mary

The Catholic Church gives honor and adoration to Mary that the Scriptures do not; she is readily referred to as "holy," the "Mother of God," and has been dubbed the "Co-Redemptrix," thereby making her an object of idolatrous worship (e.g., the rosary has ten prayers to Mary for each two directed to God). In 1923, Pope Pius XI sanctioned Pope Benedict XV's (1914-1922) pronouncement that Mary suffered with Christ, and that with Him, she redeemed the human race. And Pope Pius XII officially designated Mary the "Queen of Heaven" and "Queen of the World." Catholics claim not only that Mary was perfectly sinless from conception, even as Jesus was (doctrine of Immaculate Conception, proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854), but that the reason she never sinned at any time during her life was because she was unable to sin (cf. Lk. 1:46,47; Rom. 3:10,23; 5:12; Heb. 4:15; 1 Jn. 1:8,10). Catholics also believe that Mary was a perpetual virgin (The Bible says otherwise:cf. Ps. 69:8; Matt. 1:24,25; 13:54-56; Mk. 6:3; Jn. 7:5), and that she was assumed, body and soul, into heaven (doctrine of Assumption of Mary, declared ex cathedra by Pope Pius XII in November of 1950 -- that Mary was raised from the dead on the third day after her death, and anyone who refuses to believe this has committed a mortal sin). The consequence of all this veneration of Mary, in effect, establishes her authority above Christ's -- Rome says, "He came to us through Mary and we must go to Him through her."

A Different Gospel- Changing the 10 Commandments

In an effort to justify the idolatrous practices of bowing and praying to statues of Mary, popes, and other saints the Roman Catholic Church has perverted the Ten Commandments.  In "The Dictionary of the Liturgy": "Q. 537. (On pages 121-122): "What are the Ten Commandments?",  the second commandment on Idolatry is removed and the ninth commandment on coveteousness is broken down into two.

A Different Gospel- Muslims are saved without Christ

In 1992 the Roman Catholic church published a new Catechism in Latin and in 1994 the English translation was complete.

Section 841 states, "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."

A Different Gospel- Confession of sins to a priest

Catholics also maintain the belief in sacerdotalism -- that an ordained Catholic priest has the power to forgive sins.

The Bible says: "There is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus" (1Timothy 2:5)

Jesus said, "Do not call anyone on earth your father, for One is your Father, He who is in heaven." (Matthw 23:9)

A Different Gospel- Priests can't marry

The Bible says, " Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth."

(1 Timothy 4:13)

The fruit is evident in the epidemic of priestly sexual abuse cases.

A Different Gospel: Purgatory

It simply doesn't exist, not found in the Bible.  The Bible does say, "Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment," Hebrews 9:27

Mary Remained a virgin her whole life?

Here is what the Bible says:

"Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife, and did not know her till she had brought forth her firstborn Son.  And he called His name Jesus."

MATTHEW 3:24
