TREASURE CHEST BOOK CLUB for 2009-2010
The goal of the Treasure Chest Club is to encourage our young learners
on their journey into the world of reading and books. Becoming and enthusiastic
reader is paramount to becoming a successful student and citizen.
The Treasure Chest Club is, in short, a book club for kids! Kindergarten and First grade students receive their books the day of the book club meetings and are guided
through a reading of the book, an engaging craft or activity relating to the book and an after-school snack. Members in all other grades receive their selections
ten days to two weeks before each meeting. Each grade level reads a grade-appropriate
book and engages in discussions, crafts or other activities that will heighten the impact of the book they have read. Because the basis of each meeting is discussing the meeting’s book, it is extremely important for club members in the 2nd through 4th
grade clubs to read their selected books before the meetings. Please
encourage this commitment from your child before enrolling them in the Treasure Chest Club.
Argyle ISD is offering book clubs
for the 2009-2010 school year to students in all elementary grade levels for the cost of $20.00 for the year. This fee will help cover the cost of a book, snack and a craft or activity for the six meetings to be held
throughout the year.
Meetings will begin in October
and end in April. We will meet on the last Wednesday of each meeting month after
school ending at 4:00pm. Our clubs are divided as follows: kindergarten,
1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade boys and 4th grade girls.

Finally, we need parent volunteers to lead small groups at each meeting. This is a great opportunity to assist in a worthwhile goal-teaching our children to
love reading! The time commitment is generally 1-2 hours six times throughout
the year. It is necessary that we have enough parent volunteers to ensure that
we do not have to turn students away for this program. We would love your help!!!
