Welcome Back!                                              August 24, 2009

      I hope that everyone has had a great summer and that you are excited about the 2009-2010 school year! Your PTA is looking forward to offering you some wonderful programs and opportunities to volunteer this year.

     We invite all parents of students, new and experienced to join us after drop-off on the first day of school in the cafeteria for coffee, pastries, maybe some tears and/or cheers.  We will be happy to tell you of various ways you can get involved and help you get acclimated to Hilltop. We will have tables organized by grade level so that you can connect with other parents from your child’s class and grade. There will also be a question and answer session with our principal, Robin Block.

     We will be starting our annual fundraiser in September with the actual Walk-a-thon event on Oct. 2. The PTA is able to fund a variety of projects in the school because of this fundraiser.  A few items that we were able to fund last year were:

• Academic excellence                                 
• Sports balls for each class
• Playground balls for each class                    
• Teacher appreciation
• Health and Wellness programs                   
• Red Ribbon Week                             
• Summer PTA leadership seminar                
• Outdoor garden    
• High Touch High Tech Science Program     
• Science lab equipment     
• Diecutter and forms for teacher/classroom use
• Special playground equipment for children with disabilities

     As you can see the money raised was used in a variety of ways in our school, and for programs/items that would not have otherwise been attainable or available. Your contributions from last year are greatly appreciated and we hope that we can count on you again! This coming year we hope to offer some exciting programs on topics of extreme importance to children and families. We also hope to repeat the Argyle Fun-Run/Pancake breakfast (thanks to Hilltop Dads Club!) and will continue to focus on encouraging health and wellness at our school by continuing Fear Factor Taste Tests and weaving healthier attitudes throughout functions and programs during the year.    

     Please take the time to carefully review all of the information in the Welcome Back packet.  Sign yourself and your child/children up! Get involved! Our goal is to make Hilltop Elementary an excellent place for your child to come and learn and we need your active participation to make it happen. The best way to know what’s going on at Hilltop and with your kids is to be part of the PTA!

     All of the volunteers listed on the Board Roster and others have dedicated a lot of time and energy to our school, children and teachers. If you have any questions, concerns or requests please do not hesitate to give one of us a call. We would love to have your input to make the Hilltop Parent Teacher Association the best it can be.
