On August 25, 2006, the Chelsea Recovery Clubhouse, Inc. became a corporation in the State of New York.  A board of directors was formed and installed.  To see the roster of the Board of Directors, click here.
 
Beginning in December 2006, the corporation commenced fundraising activities.  The fundraising goal was set at $250,000.  To achieve this goal, 100 charter memberships are available at $2500 per member. Charter Members will be listed permenantly on the Lobby Board.  Other levels of membership are available too.  To find out more, click here.
 
In January 2007, the board of directors began looking for a physical space for our new home.
 
In February 2007, the corporation began grantwriting processes with other community groups for state and federal grants to underwrite our programs.  Chelsea Clubhouse received notification that it would be a recipient of the 2007 Lily Auchincloss Foundation grant.  At the February meeting, the Board of Directors also began planning for a fundraising event in May 17, 2007 for potential charter members. March through May 2007 were busy times for the Chelsea Clubhouse.  The inaugural fundraising event was held on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the home of a Clubhouse supporter.  There were over 100 in attendance and here are some the highlights:
 
Besides the fabulous food by Chef Deke Haylon, the guests were treated to the great entertainment of comedian Jessica Kirson, from NBC's second season of Last Comic Standing.
 
Barbara Warren from New York's LGBT Community Center shared with guest's the importance of the Clubhouse's work, why the community needs Chelsea Clubhouse, why the LGBT Communtiy Center supports our work, and how the two organizations are working together already.
 
Each of the Clubhouse Board Members particpated in a presention that gave the guests an opportunity to see our mission, our financial plan, our start up costs, how to get involved, and how to make a contribution.  To see that presentation, click here.
 
The Clubhouse recieved its 501(c)(3) status from the Internal Revenue Service on September 26, 2007.
 

Chelsea Recovery Clubhouse, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and a peer-based community organization that provides safe, dependable, and affordable meeting space for the recovery community in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York, NY.  The corporation fosters an environment for recovery, education, spiritual support and social opportunity.
