Ocean City is going to be different this year. Pool play will have combined A and B teams, and
seedings will be based off the games on Saturday. This allows the newer teams to take a shot at the big boys on Saturday,
and encourage them to step up when they are ready.
On Sunday, we will be splitting into A and B brackets for the single elimination tourney.
There needs to be 6 teams in each bracket in order to split; otherwise we will keep tournament together. This
makes the competition in the A bracket even tougher, matching the best against the best throughout the day.
It also gives the less talented teams a trophy to shoot for, and should give them more games on Sunday.
The bid and travel stipend will be based on the total number of teams playing 9-man, and only the A bracket
will be eligible for those prizes. The B bracket will be playing for a trophy only. This will keep the upper level teams from
dropping down to the B bracket to win prizes. The team that wins the B bracket will be listed on the tournament
results below the last team of the A bracket. For example, if we have 8 teams in the A bracket and 6 in the B bracket,
the B bracket champion will be listed as finishing 9th in the tournament.
What about the teams that aren't sure if
they deserve to be at the elite level? Since both A and B level teams are paying the same entry fee and contributing
to the same prize structure, the solution is easy. Teams who sign up for the B bracket have until 7pm to choose to move
up to play in the A bracket. However, teams that register as A teams cannot move down.
This is a new setup
for our tournaments, and I am sure there will be questions. However, I think this gives something to the B teams
(more games) and something to the A teams (larger prize). If you need more information or have other questions,
please contact me.
