My work is created from a restless desire to express myself in fabric, texture and image. I am excited when
faced with unusual scenarios and often use them as the foundation for a project. I find I do my best work when I give myself
no boundaries, no deadlines and only a loose idea of where I want my work to lead me.
As I work with the fabric I allow my art to evolve by stopping frequently and listening to what it is saying
to me. Often, fabric alone won’t clearly make my statement so I often turn to unconventional embellishment – paper,
yarn, copper or steel mesh, paint and ink. Whatever it takes to help the viewer become a part of my work and to understand
what I am trying to say. The use of such embellishment creates the visual tension and excitement that keep my art quilts interesting.
Currently
I am exploring the use of text in my work -
hidden
words drawing the viewer in for a closer, more intimate experience. I am also working on a series of pieces dealing with life
situations, aging and health issues. My work is different from yesterday, changing today, and heading in a new direction tomorrow.
I hope you stick around for the ride!
Several years ago I thought that my quilting abilities would improve if I became a trained
judge. Little did I know that this training would open many other doors of opportunity for me. I was honored to be a part
of the judging panel for the 2004 and 2005 Hoffman Challenge and one of two judges for Tulare's Best of the Valley 2005 and
2009 Quilt Show. I have also judged the Los Angeles County Fair, the Orange County Fair and the San Bernardino
County Fair as well as several local guild events. I am always looking for more venues to judge - maybe your guild holds a
judged quilt show and needs a fair and well-trained judge with a pleasant personality!
I have also developed a program showing how God has worked in my life through my
breast cancer survival. This program also includes a quilt trunk show - something unique on the Christian lecture circuit.
Please e-mail me for further details.
My husband Jim and I live in Walnut, CA and are empty-nesters. We share our home with two
bassett hounds - Beau and Mortie. These clowns keep us laughing all day! I am currently the treasurer for TLC Quilters of
Covina, CA and an active member of Subterranean Quilters of Orange County, affectionately known as SubQ.
