Speed skating is a fun family sport. New skaters are always welcome. Just stop by the ice rink at any of
our Wednesday or Saturday speed skating sessions and join in the fun. We have speed skates and safety equipment available
for use at the ice rink. See you on the ice!
Cost:
For skaters new to our sport, the first two sessions are free. Come try out speed skating. You'll get hooked
and want to skate all the time!
The first six months are $10 each session for children and $20 for adults. After the first six months the cost
is $12 for children and $20 for adults. A monthly payment is available making the cost of skating even more affordable.
EQUIPMENT:
To ensure the safety of our skaters, skaters must wear all of the clothing and safety equipment described in our
sport's racing rules.
Clothing Requirements:
- Please wear long pants and long sleeves.
- Gloves or mittens. If you have gloves or mittens please bring them along. Otherwise we have golves and
mittens available for use at the ice rink.
Safety Equipment:
- Safety helmet. If you have a safety helmet, a bike helmet or skateboard type helmet please bring it along.
Otherwise we have helmets available for use at the ice rink.
- Knee pads. If you have soft volleyball type knee pads, please bring them along. Otherwise we have knee
pads available for use at the ice rink.
- Shin guards. If you have hard plastic soccer shin guards, please bring them along. Otherwise we have shin
guards available for use at the ice rink.
- Neck protectors. If you have a hockey goalie neck protector, please bring it along. Otherwise we have neck
protectors available for use at the ice rink.
Boots and Blades:
- Speed skates are the preferred way to go. If you have your own skates bring them along. Otherwise thanks
to the LA84 Foundation we have a large selection of speed skates available for use at the ice rink. They are made available
on a first come first served basis, please note that children have first priority.
- After you have skated for a month or so, with the permission of our Children's Program Director, children can put down
a $100 deposit and take home a pair of skates, a helmet and all of the safety equipment. This will enable your child
to skate on the same pair of skates all the time. When they out-grow that pair, just exchange them for a larger size.
- Want to buy your own skates? Many skaters like to own their equipment. Before you spend your money, talk
with our coaches about the best skates for you and how to order. Our coaches can guide you though the process.
A Little Paperwork:
Every skater must sign a Club Waiver before stepping on the ice. Children will need to have their parent or guardian
sign the waiver. Waivers are available at the front desk when you check-in.
