Dear Neighbor,

You are receiving this letter because you live in Dawn Acres. As living in this community you are part “stake holder” in the Dawn Acres Neighborhood Improvement Assn. Inc. The Association was started in the 1950’s under another name to maintain the park at the end of King Street Extension. This park was donated to Dawn Acres when this community was built. This is NOT owned by the Town of Leicester. A few years ago the Town of Leicester realized that they had not been taxing the land as they should have. The total taxes on the land are approximately 350 dollars per year. The burden of the taxes has been paid over the past few years by only a handful of residents.

The land can may qualify for a 501(C)3 tax exemption. This will make the land Tax Free. A lawyer is being sought to file the appropriate paperwork. In order to qualify for the exemption the Association has to re-organize. Until then however the taxes on the land must be paid. If not, the land can be for-closed on and sold at a public auction. Builders can purchase the land and do what they want with it. This may not be in the best interest of the neighborhood. Therefore, I am asking the residents donate 20 dollars per household to aid in paying the overdue taxes. This is voluntary and an account has been set up at Country Bank. Please make a check payable to; The Dawn Acres Neighborhood Improvement Assn. INC. You can drop off your check to 21 King Street extension in my mailbox attached to my house.
