Currently, the WVHC
is a growing organization….but, what has the organization accomplished?
- Sponsored several low-cost training clinics on topics ranging from starting the young horse, improving riding skills, endurance riding, and wilderness
horse-packing!
- Worked with 4-H and Pony Clubs in the State. For example, Connie
Lupardus managed 26 Clover Buds at her farm. Participants learned about caring for horses, and each could ride and roast hotdogs—after
the stalls were cleaned, of course!
- Lobbied for the funds to complete the first Economic Impact Study of the Horse Industry in WV. http://www.wvu.edu/~agexten/youth/Equine.pdf
- Worked with the West Virginia
Development Office to try to establish an equine facility in the state
- Worked with the Department of Tourism to increase the number of brochures that list equestrian trails
- Written
and published an equine guide for the beginning horse owner
- Written
a grant for funding to attend the Equine Affaire for promotion of Horseback Vacations in WV
- Worked
to increase awareness of the equine industry with the
- Senate
and House of Representatives
- WV
Development Office and the Small Business Association
- WV
State Department of Agriculture
- Sponsored an Equine Health Clinic, with two veterinarians, a farrier, and West Virginia University,
who provided information on hay quality and tested fecal samples for parasites
- Encouraged
the expansion and continuation of the Horse Industry Directory published by the Department of Agriculture.
- Annually
Hosts Horse Industry Day at the Capital, which has become our most positive way of reaching all of delegates.
