Earth Spinning

Our recent news....

I'm hopeful the new 7th Grade will take the lead with the St. Mary's recycling project within the school.  We purchased recycling containers for each building level and began collecting recyclable plastic bottles and aluminum cans last year.   I'm hoping to continue this wonderful project with even more student leadership this year!

Homework expectations:

The homework assigned in science serves many purposes, to allow students to reinforce what is learned in class, to expose any areas of misunderstanding that need remediation or review, to practice critical thought, as well as to provide practice in writing about scientific information and concepts.  For this reason, all homework is reviewed and counts toward a homework average (20 % of the quarterly grade).  I do not assign homework unless it serves an academic purpose.

Students may have several days without homework, followed by several days with, while at other times, homework follows a pattern of every other day.  This will depend on the progress of the class, and if we are addressing a new topic.  I encourage all students to make studying their vocabulary a habit.  At this level, being able to understand the vocabulary supports all of the other class objectives.

If at any time, a student's homework exceeds 30 minutes per night, please stop the assignment and let me know.  Keep in mind though, I often assign more time intensive homework over several days.

Students:  If you leave it until the last night to complete, that's poor planning, not  an excuse.  :(
