Diane Ciapura

Diane Ciapura is a Camarillo artist whose work has evolved from classically styled traditional paintings to striking multi-dimensional abstract expressions.  These fascinating constructs yield a unique symphony of form, color and depth. They are created in a time-consuming layered process that really involves several paintings within each work.  Each layer, as it develops, generates an emotional impulse that launches the next layer.  As this process progresses the layers work together to produce an image wherein all of the layers play off each other to produce a vibrancy and harmony that is visual music.

Having been a successful painter in more traditional forms, Diane’s road to her present level of unbridled creative expression was not an easy one.  After years of producing very competent and lovely paintings that had found satisfying commercial acceptance, she struggled with a growing desire to break out to explore color, light and texture in a new way with no boundaries.  It took a great deal of courage and soul searching to leave the traveled path and explore what she knew would ultimately be a much more creative and fulfilling art form.

The triggering inspiration came with her relocation to Sedona, Arizona in 1995.  Diane found herself surrounded by the constant variations in form, light and color that range from the subtle to the magnificent.  Resisting the temptation to become a factory of clichéd red rock landscapes, she instead employed the spiritual aura that is Sedona to guide her exploration of shape, hue and light.  It took years of experimentation for this journey to bring her to the new level of creativity she sought.  Diane’s layered images are the realization of that goal.  With her eventual relocation to Camarillo in 2004 she was inspired to push this process to new levels.

Her work has been in numerous juried shows in Ventura County, The Sedona Art Center, The Artist’s Galleria, The Raku Gallery in Jerome, Arizona as well as at the San Diego Institute of Art.  Her paintings have been shown at the Baker Little Gallery, the “B” Street Gallery and the Stephen Clayton Gallery, all in San Diego.  Her work has also been acquired for many private collections in the United States, Canada and Japan, including the International Food Safety Council.

Diane is a graduate of the University of California with degrees in Fine Arts and Art History and Criticism.
