UPDATE!! Join us for Scintillation Weekend!

We have arranged for a special Sherlockian treat to start off Scintillation Weekend! On Friday, August 27, Steven Doyle, author of Sherlock Holmes for Dummies, will be doing a presentation and book signing at Howard County Library. Copies of Sherlock Holmes for Dummies will be available for purchase. This event is free and open to the public, but registration will be required in advance. Registration for this event will be via Howard County Library's web site at www.hclibrary.org sometime in June.

In addition, on Sunday, August 29, Watson's Tin Box will have a special showing of some of our legendary Evidence Boxes at Howard County Library's East Columbia Branch. There is an evidence box for nearly every Sherlock Holmes story with items relating to that story. The boxes were a pet project of Watson's Tin Box co-founder, the late Paul Churchill, whose family generously entrusted the boxes to the care of the Tin Box after Paul's untimely death. The boxes will be on display in the meeting room of the Miller Branch from 2 pm to 4 pm on the 29th. This event is free, but registration is required via the registration form above.

History of A Scintillation of Scions

August 2008 was our very first "A Scintillation of Scions." The idea for SoS was to have a gathering of members of Sherlock Holmes societies and other Sherlock Holmes fans for scholarship, fun and camaraderie. The name "A Scintillation of Scions" was in the manner of “an exhaltation of larks," and refers to a quote by Holmes in The Adventure of the Illustrious Client, "Excellent, Watson! You scintillate today."

At the SoS papers are presented along with many diversions and entertainment. There is time for socializing with other Sherlockians in attendance and the day is highlighted with a traditional English afternoon tea. SoS has averaged about 55 attendees from Maryland, Washington D.C., Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, Michigan, Ohio, and Florida.

In August 2009 Watson’s Tin Box hosted its second annual “A Scintillation of Scions," which was even more successful than 2008's event. We look forward to welcoming all of you to this year's festivities!
