Rintaro Wada, Cello
Rintaro Wada studied in Rochester, NY, and Japan, earning a Master of Music
in performance and literature from Eastman School of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree and post-graduate diploma in cello
performance from Showa College of Music. He has studied cello performance with Hirofumi Kanno, Stefan Ruess, Marcy Rosen,
Steven Doane, and Alan Harris, also chamber music with Richard Killmer, Paul O’Dette, Christel Thielmann, as well as
with the Amadeus Quartet, Bartok Quartet, Mendelssohn Quartet, Ying Quartet, and Fine Arts String Quartet.
Rintaro Wada presently teaches at Olean High School as their orchestra teacher, and cello instructors
for the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton College and Alfred University. While enjoying making music with young musicians in teaching, he blazes a trail in performance.
His performance experience is broad; 16th century renaissance music through contemporary music including numerous premieres.
His solo, chamber music, and orchestra performances were given in Japan, Italy, and the US. Most recently in orchestra
performance, he has performed as the principal cellist of the Southern Tier Symphony, and as the third chair cellist of the
Western New York Chamber Orchestra. His chamber music groups include Alfred Piano Trio, Allegany Piano Trio, Serendipity
Piano Trio, and W Piano Quartet. He is the music director of the Chamber Music Society of Olean.
Ritsuko Wada, Piano
Ritsuko Wada, native of Japan, holds a Bachelor of Music degree
in piano performance from Showa Collage of Music where she was a merit scholarship student studying with Takahiro Sonoda,
who was Japan’s leading pianist, and judge of the most important International Piano Competitions. Also She studied piano, solfege and chamber music with Jun Ozawa, and piano performance with Hikaru Matsuura
and Yaeko Sasaki. Mrs. Wada’s extensive piano study includes attendance
at the Respighi Summer Music Academy in Italy and the Cahl Slue Conservatory
in Germany. She has been awarded the honoree prize at Japan Piano Education Association and the first prize
of Showa Collage concerto competition.
Ritsuko Wada began her teaching
career in 1991 at the Yamaha Music School. She has performed number of recitals as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist in universities and
churches. She played as a pianist in Allegany Piano Trio, Serendipity Piano Trio and W piano Quartet. Mrs. Wada is a member of Music Performance Practice Association of Japan.
Chamber Music Concert Series
In the summer of 2001, Rintaro and Ritsuko Wada founded the Chamber Music Concert Series (Chamber Music
Concert Series by Chamber Music Society of Olean since 2005) to ignite live classical music scenes in the Western New
York State and Bradford, PA, and had given over thirty concerts in towns of Alfred, Bath, Bolivar, Buffalo, Houghton,
Jamestown, Olean, Portville, and Wellsville. A performance by their cello and
piano ensemble, “Duo Wada” (summer and fall 2004) and the piano trio with the violinist Lin He (fall 2006) were
features one-hour programs and broadcasted from the WPSU FM radio station.
