Remembering The Past and Honoring The Soldiers

This site  The Web

The Korean War lasted 3 years, (1950 - 1953). 5,720,000 US service men and
women saw active duty during the conflict. Some veterans of WW2, others raw recruits.
They fought on a rigorous terrain where the climate, during the course of a year, went from 100 Degree days to extreme cold.
Names like Pusan Perimeter, Inchon, Chosan Reservoir, Pork Chop Hill where battles were fought and finally ending in stalemate with a cease fire agreement that has kept the country still divided at the 38th parallel. It resulted in 157,530 US casualties,
Reminding us that Freedom is not free. Having taken place 5 years after the Second World War and overshadowed by Vietnam
Korea has become "The Forgotten War"

Having always enjoyed history and being somewhat of a military buff when I first went to a re-enactment back in 1992 I decided to give it a try. I started out doing WW2 events but I have never seen the Korean War represented. Several years ago in preparation to do a "timeline" I decided to fill this gap and started assembling a Korean War "kit". Even though a lot of the equipment was of WW2 vintage, the solders and their actions need to be represented. My personal impression is that of a soldier from the US 3rd Infantry Division, but the assorted pieces of uniforms, equipment and weapons that are used in a static display or parade were used by all . When a veteran approaches and says "thank you" I know that I have done my part correctly and he knows that the Korean War veteran will not be forgotten. I enjoy what I do and volunteer myself and gear to educate the public and to honor the veterans. Learn and see what you father, grandfather or relative lived and fought with. By learning the past we can prepare ourselves for the future.
