Black Bear's Hudson Valley Tale is an approximately 1-hour long theatrical concert for
children and their families and Madera Vox's answer to Sergei Prokofiev's classic narrated concert for children
"Peter and the Wolf." Black Bear's Hudson Valley Tale weaves an original story by children's
author and illustrator Iza Trapani, original instrumental and vocal music by Madera Vox's David Gluck, and creative movement
into a performance that engages the hearts and minds of children and their families, allowing them to “see” with
their ears and “hear” with their eyes. Charming and beautifully rendered visuals by Ms. Trapani accompany the
story and the music.
The
production premiered at the Center for the Performing Arts in Rhinebeck, NY on October 10, 2009, as part of the of the ongoing Hudson/Fulton
Quadricentennial celebration.
The
group was awarded a grant from Partners for Arts Education to facilitate collaborative planning with teachers and administration and to develop effective and meaningful
lesson plans for a mini pilot residency at Sargent Elementary School in Beacon from October 20 through November 13.
