Even though
we are Music for Sight, imagery for the blind through music, we could also very easily be Books for Sight. Fear not, I am not going to change our name. I am however;
going to devote these pages to reviewing books that excel in imagery of impact worthy of consideration as a temporary replacement
for the real sense.
I love to
read. And I love to write. So this
seems to me like a natural extension of what I’ve been doing on this web site since 2003 when I first began publication.
Since the
books I’ll be reviewing will be books I have actually read, don’t laugh, given the
content of some of the book reviews I have reading the past, I suspect many critics write reviews based on annotations or
blurbs from publishers, and since I usually only read books I think will interest me, I am going to invite some of my friends
who are great reviewers to post reviews on their favorite books. Why, you to
can submit a review! Just write it up and send it to me. My address is dj@musicforsight.org
I can not
promise to post everything I receive, however; every submission will be read by me and given consideration.
I guess that
is enough of an introduction. Wait, one more thing; if you are blind or visually
impaired and live in Florida and are part of the Florida Bureau of Braille and Talking Book Library Services
but are not yet subscribed to the
BARD (Braille and Audio Reading Downloads), , follow this link to get started. You will need to be subscribed
to BARD, a part of the NLS (National Library Service), to download the books we review at no cost to you! If you live in Florida but are not yet
part of the Florida Braille and Talking Book Library Services, send an email to
OPAC_Librarian@dbs.fldoe.org
or call up
Trudy on the telephone (ok, I don’t know that the librarian’s name is Trudy, but if you are a fan of the Charlie
Daniels Band you know what happened to me there…) at (800) 226-6075 and tell Trudy, or whoever the librarian is you
want to be a member of the BARD! If you live somewhere other than Florida but somewhere within the good old United
States of America, visit the National Library Service’s Find A Library page or call 1-888-NLS-READ (1-888-657-7323) for more information on talking
book library services in your neck of the woods.
I will also
provide links to buy and download commercial audio books and to purchase print
versions of the books reviewed.
Whichever
way you go, it is my goal to give you reviews that will help you find just the right book for you.
