Quality Schools
Glasser Quality Schools are based on the principles of Choice Theory applied
to the school, the classroom and the greater school community.
A more detailed description of Quality Schools may be found in the following
books by William Glasser:
• The Quality School - Managing Students Without Coercion,
1992
• The Quality School Teacher, 1993
• Every Student Can Succeed, 2000
Support
for Quality School implementation includes:
• Initial presentations and training for administrators
• Presentations to parent groups and school staffs
• Basic training for school staffs
• Workshops for parents
• Developing a communication strategy for the school
• On-going support and instruction for teachers
• Measuring success
Part of becoming
a Quality School involves the development of a comprehensive plan for
both staff development and parent and student involvement. I also assist
teachers with class meetings and classroom activities.
Quality School implementation is a school-wide focus which assists students
to do quality work. School staffs make a commitment to the implementation
as a long- term professional development initiative or as a school goal.
Teachers, in a Quality School, apply principles of Choice Theory and Reality
Therapy in order to create an environment that is non-coercive, encourages
self-evaluation and engages students in discussions about quality and
producing work that is useful. The school could select to become a member
of the Glasser Quality Schools Consortium which is a world-wide organization
supported by the The William Glasser Institute.
