Background

Richard Stillman was featured on the premier episode of
the PBS television series Shining Time Station. He received
critical acclaim for his performance in Lady Be Good at the
Kennedy Center and the Goodspeed Opera House. On Broadway Mr. Stillman played
the Clerk of Oxford in Canterbury Tales, and understudied Mummenschanz.
Regional theatre productions include: Take it From the Top with
Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee, Midsummer Night's Dream at the Alaska
Repertory Theatre, Twelfth Night with Jean Marsh and Nicholas
Martin, Man of La Mancha at Theatre by the Sea, and Hamlet
with Rip Torn and Geraldine Page. He has performed at the New Jersey Folk
Festival, opened for Jim Henson and Kermit the Frog, and performs every year
at the New Jersey Storytelling Festival. Mr. Stillman holds a BA in Theatre
from Dartmouth College, and a performing artists in the schools certificate
from Columbia University.
For the past twenty years Richard Stillman has been touring his own shows to
theatres, schools and festivals. His musical theatre group Two Silly
Fathers Productions with mime/actor/percussionist Craig Babcock performs The
Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Aladdin and the Lamp, and The Emperors New
Clothes. The Mythmakers, a storytelling and music duo with
nationally acclaimed storyteller Gerald Fierst has programs that include: Stories
From Around the World, Monsters & Minstrels, Music and Stories of the Renaissance
and Middle Ages, American Tall Tales, and Jewish Folktales with Klezmer
Music. Richard also performs shows with guitarist Paul Byrne that include:
The Irish Balladeers, Pecos Bill Rides the Oregon Trail, A World Mosaic of
Music and Dance, The Spirit of Vaudeville, Spanish and Latin American Music,
Holiday Troubadours and Sea Songs Yarns and Hornpipes.
These shows combine original and traditional folk music, storytelling and
percussive dance. Some of the instruments include: Scottish and Spanish
bagpipes, talking drum, African kalimba, mandolin, ukulele, Russian balalaika
,Puerto Rican cuatro, and tenor banjo. Richard also teaches theatre,
music, dance and storytelling workshops in schools.
In addition, Mr. Stillman plays with his own Dixieland band, a
Country/Bluegrass band called Trail Mix and an Irish band by the name
of Ceili Country at ceilicountry.com
They were featured in 2007 at the Hunter Mountain Irish Festival.
