"His expression may often be called bald...but it is bald as the bare mountain tops are bald,
with a baldness full of grandeur." -Preface to Poems of Wordsworth

From a very early age I was taught to think for myself. It is probably the most useful thing I ever learned. Don't be afraid to be who you are. It will not be easy sometimes and it my not win you any popularity contests. At the end of your life you will be able to say that you were yourself. I have a feeling you will have fewer regrets for having done so. One of the saddest things I see each day is the buckling of wills to conformity. And what is worse is that most people go willingly. Think what you want. Say what you need to say. Educate yourself. Help others to become free.

      •     Man has made it this far not because of his intelligence but through the luck of the draw. He happened to have the qualities needed to survive his environment, an opposable digit, and have a slightly different kind of sentience, to help him down the path of evolution. It did not hurt that he is one of the most destructive beasts to grace the face of this earth and that he has very little regard for anything but himself. When I look at man now and look at him many years ago, he has not changed much. It seems that he has only learned a few new tricks to amuse himself. For if man were truly intelligent, he would not only acknowledge his mistakes and the problems they have caused, but he would be willing to learn from them. That is something he cannot do yet.

      •     Why religion should never be an issue and why we should not fear death:

      • If there is a god and he is benevolent we have nothing to fear. If there is no god it will not matter. If there is a god and he is indifferent it will not matter. If there is a god and he is in some way oppressive, exclusive, or unforgiving then we should attempt to unseat this "god".
      •     Religion, among other things, has always been a tool for those in control to manipulate the way people think and act. I have never liked institutions that attempted to take choices away from people and replace them with intangible threats.

      •     There is nothing more beautiful than nature and young children. They are both oblivious to mankind and his ways. Perhaps they understand something we don't.

      •     Do not try to reclaim your childhood. You will lose the battle. Children do not like to be forced into doing anything. Ask him to play a game of hide and seek. Eventually you will find his hiding place.

      •     Work should only be the time in-between days off and your vacations. Any other way you look at it you are missing out on life. If your work does not suit you find a new job. There is no reason to spend more than a third of each day in misery.

      •     Love other people a little less. Love yourself a little more. No one will know the difference and you will feel better about yourself.

      •     Take the blinders off of love. It will hurt romance a little, but I do not know of a relationship that has survived a long time ,using romance as it's cornerstone.

      •     Everyone who lives in our society is discriminatory. We will spend the rest of our lives fighting against those feelings. Start the fight now. There is a long battle ahead.

      •     Our country has actually never been a democracy. When people did vote hundreds of years ago, officials were not a true representation of the people, because voting was exclusionary. Now, though everyone may vote, such a small portion of the country chooses to do so, that our elected officials are not an accurate representation of the people.

      •     Do not believe that slavery has been abolished. Though its chains have changed in appearance they still bind many. Slavery will exist until people are able to change their situations without the use of money, power or clout.

      •     Support the right to die. Let people die with dignity.

      •     In comparison to all of the universe we are as dust mites are to human beings. Unseen, unheard, unfelt. Why do we insist on attaching a greater importance to our existence?

      •     There is a big difference between an individual and someone who wants to get attention. An individual does not care what people think and does not seek any reaction at all.

      •     Laughter is one of mankind's greatest creations. It allows us to cope in the worst of times, heal wounds long after we have been hurt, and allows us to feel joy beyond anything else that I have ever known.

      •     What can you say about love? It is warm, kind, generous, and blind. Just thinking about it gives me goose bumps. Perhaps love is a glimpse of the potential mankind holds.

      •     Give as much of yourself as you can in your life. Life is too short to be passing off a pale imitation of yourself to others. Don't waste the energy. Instead, take the energy and shine, shine, shine!

      •     Protect the environment as much as you can. I would hate to see one of the greatest species on the globe become extinct because of its own indifference.

      •      For one day, just sit back and listen to the people around you, I mean really listen. Don't judge or mock what they are saying, just listen. I guarantee your perception of life will change for the better.

      •     Cherish love whenever and however  it appears. Embrace it with all your heart, no matter how much you fear the love will not be returned. For it is that fear that will keep the love away. I do not know anyone who has truly loved who can say that they regret loving, but I know many people who feel alone because they don't try.

      •     If you are a passionate person, let the passion flow. Let it flow where it needs to go. Let it spill over into all portions of your life. For passion to be genuine it must be free, it must be ever changing, it must be felt.

      •     Never underestimate the power of friendship. Remember, family is bound to you by blood, friends are bound together by choice.

      •     Try as much as you can to live in the moment. Too often we live for the hope of tomorrow or the memory of what was.

      •     Confront your own mortality. It will help you live in the moment.
