This black walnut tree was cut to clear for an expansion of the Society of the Alumni Building on the College of William and Mary. It grew on the campus that was endowed in 1693 by King William and Queen Mary of England to educate young men of Great Britain’s earliest American Colony. The form resembles a shell so I named it Neptune for God of the Sea. It is a reminder of the strong link between Great Britain and United States.
