| CLAUDIU
FATU AWARDED MEDAL "Army Specialist Claudiu Fatu of Ipswich, just back from a year of service in Iraq, was one of seven members of the 1166th Transportation Co. honored for heroic actions above and beyond the call of duty after they rescued a fellow Fort Bragg soldier following a violent traffic accident March 11. Their quick actions, timely first aid, and precise decisions prevented an already dangerous situation from escalating into disaster, according to an Army press release. As they were returning to work following physical training, the soldiers witnessed an MP emergency vehicle crash while traveling at a high rate of speed. The seven soldiers of the Air National Guard unit deployed out of Ware, Mass., jumped from their vehicles and rushed to assist the two occupants and direct traffic flow. The group moved a wounded soldier from the burning vehicle and stayed with him until EMS and Fire Service arrived. The soldiers received the Impacted Army Achievement Medal later that day at the base in Fort Bragg, N.C. Fatu is the son of Ion and Viorica Fatu of Ipswich and a graduate of Ipswich High School."
