ROMANIAN-AMERICAN SOLDIER in IRAQ

Claudia Fatu, 21, resident of Ipswich, MA, has spent the last year fighting in Iraq along regular US troops.  Although an US permanent resident but not citizen (yet), everybody he comes in contact with assumes he's an American. He looks like an American, speaks American English, wears a U.S. Army uniform. After graduating from Ipswich High school, Claudiu began his studies at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was majoring in Electrical Engineering before being called up by his Army reserve unit.  He came to US with his father in 1997, later followed by his mother and brother.  While on vacation from Iraq, Claudiu gave an interview to Ipswich Chronicle about his experience on the battle field.  We all hope that Claudiu returns soon and he stays safe.

The [mini] ROMANIAN HOLLYWOOD

It's not a secret that many movies are filmed in Romania these days or Romanian actors play in many western productions.  However, two recent blockbuster movies have a Romanian "connection." "The Passion of the Christ" released Feb 25, 2004, on Ash day, the controversial movie by Mel Gibson, stars Maia Morgenstern as Mary.  "Cold Mountain" starring Nicole Kidman and Donald Sutherland, was shot on the snowy and magical slopes of Transylvania. More about "Cold Mountain" at CNN's travel section.
