DIMITRIE CANTEMIR at HARVARD UNIVERSITY/Rompres/ Prof. PhD Vlad Alexandrescu recently discovered the only work of Dimitrie Cantemir on Romanian soil, in the Library of the Romanian Academy. All 28 pages are part of the "Sacro-Sanctae Scientiae indepingibilis imago" work from around 1700. Dimitrie Cantemir is one of the most important personalities in the Romanian history and literature of the 17th - 18th century. Most of his works are outside Romania, especially in Russia. However, one of them, "The History of the Ottoman Empire" is at Harvard University, Cambridge MA. |

| The [mini] ROMANIAN HOLLYWOOD It's not a secret that many movies are filmed in Romania these days or Romanian actors play in many western productions. However, two recent blockbuster movies have a Romanian "connection." "The Passion of the Christ" released Feb 25, 2004, on Ash day, the controversial movie by Mel Gibson, stars Maia Morgenstern as Mary. "Cold Mountain" starring Nicole Kidman and Donald Sutherland, was shot on the snowy and magical slopes of Transylvania. More about "Cold Mountain" at CNN's travel section. |
