What skills do children most need to develop into successful young adults in the early 21st Century? Contrary to some opinions, computer skills are not on the top of the list; human relationship skills are most important. The ability to communicate well goes a long way in experiencing success in life. Educational achievements and technical knowledge have their place but a young adult with great people-skills can go a long way with whatever other skills exist.
In the Whitcomb Family Daycare, social interaction is emphasized. Children play together and learn to get along. If a child feels a need to be alone, Gladys and her husband Jonathan respect that; but interaction with other children is encouraged at least part of the time. For some children, a little one-to-one time with an adult caregiver helps the transition from being alone to eventually being able to have some interaction with other children.
