True Marriage

By Jonathan D. Whitcomb
Let us not, to true marriage, allow impediments.
Love unaltered is love Divine, unmoved,
Unbended by the Remover.
Now let us face the tempest unshaken,

To proclaim, unto the world, a man and a woman,
Ordained of God, in true marriage, are one,
Central to the Creator's plan.
This is the star: the male and the female.

Each a fool, each of us weak, in mortal life can fall.
But the Father, in perfect love ordained,
Created no fallen image.
Male and female, we can live forever.

Bide the time. Alter not love, when a passion assails.
The lonely oak, against the storm, unmoved,
Now bending away from the sea,
Will someday rest, at home across that depth.

Bent or straight in mortal life, we stand against the storm.
It is the stand we take on earth: unmoved.
Then facing Him, who gave his life,
We rest at home. Height cannot be taken.
