A Benefit for Rose Eldridge |

|
Welcome to Rose’s Run home page! Thank you for supporting Rose’s Run which was held this year on Sunday, November 15, 2009. The weather was beautiful and your support was overwhelming! |
|
Rose Eldridge was a junior at Charter School of Wilmington when she was seriously injured in a car accident on March 19, 2005. The driver and the other passenger in the car, both friends and classmates of Rose, were killed in the accident. Rose survived the accident, but suffered a severe brain injury. Rose was a member of Corpus Christi’s track & field and cross country teams from the time she was in fourth grade through eighth grade. She stayed connected with the teams when she was in high school because her younger sister (currently in tenth grade) was a member of both teams. After Rose’s accident, a group consisting of her former coaches and friends, felt that Rose’s Run would be a great way for our community to show love and support for Rose and her family. Rose is now confined to a wheelchair, has limited use of one hand, and can nod her head to answer questions. Rose lives with her mother and sister in a small house in Elsmere. Rose’s grandfather built a ramp outside the house so that Rose’s wheelchair can enter, but the bathroom is a little tight for Rose’s wheelchair. Rose turned twenty-one this past July and is now considered an adult. Rose’s mother Emilie loves her two daughters dearly. Emilie is Rose’s primary caregiver—getting her up each day, dressing her, feeding her, washing her, changing her, taking care of all of her bodily functions, and transporting her to doctor appointments. At a recent lunch with Emilie and Rose, Emilie knew that Rose would enjoy eating meatballs. Rose also pointed to a picture of chocolate cake on the menu to let us know that she also wanted a piece of chocolate cake. Emilie explained that Rose now likes to count things, as Rose put up two |

fingers to indicate that she was getting two things. She patiently waited for the food to arrive, allowed Emilie to cut up her meatballs and then used the fork to feed herself. Emilie explained that Rose enjoys eating, but needs to be watched because she doesn’t do a great job chewing the food. Rose also gets supplemental nutrition. Once she had eaten all of the meatballs, Emilie cut up some of the cake which Rose fed herself carefully, |

each time indicating for Emilie to cut up more, until the cake was gone. Rose’s eyes lit up and she gave a big smile when asked if she likes to do puzzles. Emilie confirmed that Rose really enjoys doing puzzles now. This was the fifth year for Rose’s Run. All of the money raised by this event will go to Emilie to help pay for the expenses associated with Rose’s care. We appreciate your support and your prayers for Rose and her family. |
