Fast metabolism is seen in sympathetic dominant nervous system activity.
The Sympathetic branch of the nervous system increased all sensory input to the brain.
All messages are traveling through the nervous system
at an accelerated rate of speed. The heart rate is increased, blood pressure is high, sweating is increased, body temp is
hotter rather than cold, anxiety and fear are high.
Those people with this type of metabolism will often
seek out alcohol or other depressant drugs to calm their body and mind.
Fast Metabolism causes a person to be TYPE A Personality.
TYPE
A’s have a difficult time controlling their very anxious and fearful thoughts and feelings. They feel nervous, agitated,
restless, fast thinking, impatient, have an inability to relax and let go easily, are a perfectionist with self and others,
are unable to feel satisfied with less than the best from self and others, feel states of high inner tension, feel hyper,
angry, aggressive, hostile, irritated, and have anxiety, mood swings and depression.
This increased nervous system activity is seen in the alarm stage of stress. The alarm stage is
an emergency stage of stress and should not be an ongoing event.
If this state of high nervous system activity continues
over a long period of time, a person will often be exhausted, feel depleted and be in the exhaustion stage of stress. At this
point they are barely able to cope with any type of stress. The stress glands
(the adrenals) are exhausted and depleted!
People who experience post-traumatic stress syndrome often exhibit this biochemical makeup. Their normal reactions to stress are quite exaggerated and even small events seem
like a major crisis as their nervous system and brain are in overdrive, while their body is exhausted.
