Scholarship Application
Information
The scholarship program will
open up again starting January 1, 2008. This is when the Chapter will start
receiving applicants for the "2008" year.
The cut off date for applicants
this year will be June 15th 2008.
Dear Sir or Madam,
Thank you for your interest in applying for a scholarship from the
Vietnam Veterans of America's Battlefield Chapter #617.
The Chapter offers a scholarship each year through a competitive
application process based upon each applicants supplied documents and their
submission of a narrative, not to exceed 300 words, on "In Service to America,
What it Means to Me". Attached is a checklist of required documents that
you must submit with your application for consideration of a chapter scholarship.
The Chapter's scholarship program is open to all Veterans who served
on active duty during the Vietnam War.
The scholarship program is also open for the children, adopted children,
grand children or anyone who has been in the guardianship of a Veteran who
served on active duty during the Vietnam War or is the widow/widower of a
deceased Vietnam Veteran.
Vietnam Veteran active duty service dates, are from 28 February 1961
to 7 May 1975 for in-country services and 5 August 1964 to 7 May 1975 for
military service in another duty location.
If you are a male, over 18 years of age, proof of your registration
for the Selective Service Act is required with your application.
Mail your application packet with all required documentation, as
noted in the attached checklist, to VVA Chapter #617, PO Box 266, Woodbridge,
VA 22194.
The application packet must be postmarked no later than 15th of June

Required Documents for VVA #617 Scholarship Application:
_______ A signed statement that the applicant has
Vietnam Veteran active duty service dates, from 28 February 1961 to 7 May
1975 for in-country services or 5 August 1964 to 7 May 1975 for military
service in another duty location. Or is a widow/widower of deceased Vietnam
Veteran, the child, adopted child, grandchild or person who has been in the
guardianship of a Vietnam War Veteran. The scholarship awardees will be required
to show proof of the above (i.e. a copy of your or your parents/grand
parents/guardians DD Form 214) prior to the award.
_______ If the applicant is a male over 18 years of age, proof of
his registration under the Selective Service Act. (i.e. a copy of your SSA
registration card)
_______ A letter of recommendation for this scholarship from one
of the applicant's teachers/professors if applicant is now attending an
educational institution. For applicant's not currently enrolled in an educational
institution please supply a letter of recommendation for this scholarship
from another source as his or hers clergy or business person.
_______ If applicant is attending an educational institution at the
time of the application please supply a copy of your most recent grades
indicating his/her grade point average.
_______ A typed, narrative, not to exceed 300 words, on the subject
"In Service to America, What it Means to Me".
_______ The name and address of the educational institution, beyond
high school, to which the applicant is either attending or will be attending
in the Fall of 2008. This institution may be College, Junior College, or
an Accredited Trade School or Course of Instruction.
Additional Information:
Awardees of the VVA Chapter #617 scholarships for 2008 will be notified,
in writing, by July 18, 2008.
The winning scholarship awards will be sent to the educational
institution's financial department on behalf of the winner no later than
August 3, 2008 and will not given directly to the winner.
As noted in the cover letter, mail the required documents to the
address listed no later than 15th of June 2008. Any packet received without
the required documents will not be considered for the scholarship.
