Making the Captain’s Exam an Open-book Test

Most people know that there are many, many questions that the Coast Guard draws from in making up their exams.

What you may not realize is:

  • a secret to a smooth passage through the exam is realizing that you can look up a good proportion of the questions on your test by looking in books available to you at the exam center.
  • They will give you a stack of books at the time you take the test, and you will have to know how to use them to answer exam questions.

The latest addition to Edcon’s Captain’s Exam Prep Text is a supplement covering over 100 sample questions that can be directly looked up and needn’t be memorized. These are examples and they provide guidance on how to answer hundreds of other similar questions.  This new supplement is guaranteed to speed your prep/study time in getting ready for the test – either OUPV or Master, 100 Tons.

Here’s a short sample that shows you how it works.  This section deals with the Coast Guard publication Light List, which is an important reference you can use during the exam.  The supplement covers all the other references, too.
