Serra San Quirico-Marche

A Greek historian Polybius reported that Hannibal in his march southward toward Rome had his cavalry horses rubbed down with the red wine of Picenum to give them new vigor. The wine of Picenum, was named for the people who established the civilization what is today the Marches. Produced in many small communes of the provinces of Ancona, Macerata and Ascoli Piceno. Rosso Piceno's vineyards are situated primarily in the upper hills with altitudes ranging up to 700 meters above sea level, an area dominated by the peaks of the Monti Sibillini. The varietals used to produce the wine consist of Passerina, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, and at times Trebbiano. Other grapes grown in th region are white varietals of Verdicchio and Malvasia.

Angelo Accadia is small and exquisite winemaker, producing on only 375 cases a year of his famed Riverbo wine. Coming from the Adriatic sea, on the left of the Esino river, the vineyards are on hills situated between Sasso and Saint Castellaro of Serra San Quirico The winery began In 1983. The wines produced are Verdicchio and Rosso Piceno. The tipology of his wines are characterized from the choice of the plots of ground based on the exposure and to the morphologic characteristics of the land. The grapes are hand picked in order to collect only the fruits that have perfect maturation.


ROSSO PICENO-RIVERBO
Made from Montepulciano, Sangiovese and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. After aging in barrique and tonneau for 1 year, and further matures in bottle for another year. Dark ruby red color with garnet reflections. Full and rich body. Smooth velverty feel in the mouth. Bouquet of roses, lavender, violets and cocoa.
13.5% Alc. Serve 18-20 deg C.
