There are 8 zones in the Chianti region. The Gratena farm is in the zone of Colli Aretini and consists of 15 Hectares, on stony galestro soils, at an altitude of 395 meters above sea level, producing aproximately 30,000 bottles per year near the city of Arezzo in the south east region of Tuscany. Colli Aretini wines have a unique character, which is typified by a bright violet hue due to the slightly acid soils. Grapes are harvested manually, using organic or “Biologica” farming methods to produce the optimum in quality. The vinyeards are situated between the hills of Valle di Chiana and Valle dell’Arno. Patience is the most important attribute in wine making in the vineyard, cellar, and bottle. The meticulous care taken in all three areas has in return given a stellar Chianti. The production includes a Riserva and Siro from Gratena grapes a particular clone of Sangiovese indigenous to the particular region.
