The Piglio region are located in the Pre-Apennine hills between Rome and Frosinone. The region is also know as Ciociara. The soil is calcareous clay and rock foundation with the vineyard and altitudes of aproximately 350 meters above sea level. The province of Frosinone was the Cesanese del Piglio, produced in the communal territories of Piglio, Serrone, Acuto, Anagni and Paliano. It is one of the triad of DOC wines of Latium derived from the Cesanese variety, for which this particular part of Italy represents an ideal habitat. Piglio, was a main feudal property of the Orsini during the Middle Ages.It is know to be an excellent accompaniment with chestnuts, as is a tradition in the region.

PIGLIO DOC Made from 100% Cesanese D'affile on a Cordon system. There are 4000 plants per hectare and 5 hectares under vine. Richly flavored dry, medium bodied velvety finish. The color is ruby red, with soft and smooth tannin. Notes of cherry and berry flavors. Maceration on the skins for 20 days in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation exclusively in stainless steeel and then bottled. A bouqet of roses and a slight earthiness. 13% alc. |
