Being a small company, we specialize in small jobs, although we occasionally take on larger build out and renovation projects. With a wide range of skills we can often save you a considerable amount of money by doing jobs that might otherwise require several companies and with over 25 years of experience in the restaurant business we can help to insure that you will be in compliance with health, building, life and safety, and insurance requirements. We have extensive experience working in older buildings and specialize in creative solutions to the everyday problems involved with running and maintaining a restaurant.
Some Links in My Life
A brief history of the company and myself.
- I grew up on the Central Jersey Shore, in Tinton Falls, near Red Bank (Ok, ok...GSP Exit 109).
- My brother still lives there. Visit =Mark's ReMarkable Website!. An extensive menu collection covering NYC, the Jersey Shore area, the D.C. area, St. Louis, and others. In addition, original material and links to more menu collections, reviews, recipes, spicy foods and chiles, cartoons, music, and mind wasting fun!
- I moved to the D.C. area to attend Georgetown University where I received a B.S. in biology and an M.S. in biochemistry. I paid my way through school by working in area restaurants, starting as busboy and eventually working my way up to head chef.
- Having learned darkroom work through courses in electron microscopy, I became interested in photography. After photographing a number of parties and promotional events for the restaurants that I worked at, I started Photo Trend Enterprises, a commercial freelance photographic company. This is the origin of my company name. My present business, having grown through reputation and word of mouth, has for many years been at the point where I cannot accept any more accounts. Therefore, I have never bothered to change the name.
- I finally reached the point where I was finishing up my PhD., working as a lab instructor, a full time cook, a part time photographer, and a part time research assistant at NIH. It was time for a choice, and I decided that my true love was the restaurant industry, although I stayed with the photography for a while.
- Eventually, I attended L'Academie de Cuisine for my culinary degree.
- While working as a chef, both from interest and necessity, I became interested in restaurant repair and maintenance work, and as I became more skilled, I began doing work for neighboring restaurants. Eventually, I changed my business license basis, but not the name. Repair work became a steadily growing part time job.
- After working for one restaurant for many years, the owner sold the business in January of 1993. Things continued unchanged for several months. Then, without warning, the new owners closed the kitchen and fired the entire kitchen staff on the Fourth of July to reduce labor costs. To change the immortal words of Chief Joseph a little, I decided that, "I will work for somebody else, no more, forever". And so, here I am. A long, strange trip indeed!
- Today, I live in Arlington County, just south of Washington, D.C., in the beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia.
