With the great releasing of Robotech: Battlecry for the main consoles, another developer has brought us a Game Boy Advance game to us. A 2D Side-Scroller shooter which takes place during the whole Macross Saga, as it is labeled. It has all the transformable Veritechs in all three modes: Fighter, Guardian, and Battloid. Choose to play Rick Hunter, Roy Fokker, Ben Dixon, Max Sterling, or Miriya in the beginning. Once you have beated the game, a hidden character will be unlocked. There are at least 6 hidden characters. Guest appearances of other Macross Saga characters will be seen throughout the game including Captain Gloval. Players will get to pilot most of the Veritech models shown in the Macross Saga as well as pilot one of the 4 Destroids in two levels. As with Battlecry, the GBA Game decides to use the Japanese Macross names for the Destroids instead of the original licensed Destroid names created for Robotech. Also, the game states that the Robotech Factory is the last remaining one in existence, this is not true. Robotech: The Macross Saga GBA Game contains 10 levels based on the whole Macross Saga episodes. The first 9 levels are based on different episodes throughout the saga in time order using the episode names. Level 10 is the final battle against Khyron's Cruiser. The game might be a side-scroller, but its not an easy one. It will take multiple times to fight through the Zentraedi swarms of the whole game. There are power-ups throughout each level. One power-up calls in two QF-3000E Ghost Fighters to fight aside you for a short period of time. Other power-ups give you health or better weapons to use. At the end of each mission, you will gain experience points that can be used to enhance your character on your different stats. There is also a boss at the end of each level as well. The BGM is the music from the Robotech series as well. Every part of the Robotech game supports multiplayer. You can fight in Versus mode or alongside them in Story Mode. Versus mode contains three different multiplayer games: Robo Match, Team Robo Match, and Robo Tag. The first two options are shooting games where the player or team attempt to earn a set score. Robo Tag goal is to Collect the Minmei Doll and the longer you hold it, the more points you get. These multiplayer games allow you to choice from RDF and Zentraedi forces and intermix them. Link Cable and Game (for each player) is needed for multiplaying. This GBA game is packaged with Toynami's VF-1A Max Type figurine that was never released in their collection. Unlike other Toynami figurines, this one doesn't have a stand. Robotech: The Macross Saga GBA game is exactly what every Robotech fan would want unless they dislike side-scrollers. Finally, after 17 years, we get to play through the episodes of the Robotech series! Too bad Battlecry wasn't more like that.
Please enjoy the screenshots of the games below the "About" info.
