                                               Fire  Prevention
The goal of the fire department is to minimize the risk of life and property loss from fire.  Fire prevention methods used by the fire service focus on inspection,  code enforcement, public fire safety education and fire investigation.

                                                         Fire Prevention Tips
 
If your clothes catch on fire Stop, Drop, & Roll
 
EDITH (Exit drills in the home) Have a fire drill and practice your escape routes.
 
Only specific types of open burning are permitted under state laws and village ordinance.
 
Fireplaces should be inspected and swept annually by a certified chimney sweep.
 
Carbon monoxide detectores are recommended for homes and businesses with gas burning appliances.
 
Store fuel cans, chemicals, matches, etc. in a safe place and out of reach of children.
 
All heating appliances should be kept at least 36 inches from any combustibles.
 
Each home and business should have at least one 5 lb. ABC fire extinguisher.
 
Be sure burning candles are in a sturdy holder away from combustibles and never left unattended.
 
Each home should be following the state of Illinois smoke detector laws.
 
Never leave food on the stove unattended.
 
Grease fires - "PUT A LID ON IT"
 
Home and businesses should have address numbers posted to be visible and legible from the street.
