The 1958 season features no fewer than eleven no-hitters, including three by Brian Conway of Pasquin and two by Richie Allen, both on Pasquin. But the pitching highlight of the year comes on 30-May, Memorial Day, when Joe Rybka of Lions throws the league’s second perfect game, downing Flash, 6-0. Rybka went on to become a Bergen County police officer, and he was living in Wood-Ridge when he was killed 6-Jan-1979, gunned down with his own revolver by a county inmate at Bergen Pines County Hospital.
Rutherford Little League hosts its first tournament game since 1953 when Rutherford American takes on Lodi Thursday 24-Jul. The home team comes up just short, dropping a 1-0 decision in its lone contest.
