B. Altman & Co. closes its Rutherford warehouse, creating a sponsor vacancy filled by Rutherford Sporting Goods.
Former Rutherford Little Leaguer Harry Usher, now commissioner of the United States Football League, is the grand marshal of the opening day parade. He is joined by Dr. Creighton J. Hale, president and chief executive officer of Little League Baseball, Inc., as well as by the 12 former league players who formed Rutherford High School's state championship basketball team. Lost in the hoopla is pitcher Ryan Hadrava, who pitches Elks to victory in the season opener.
