Rutherford American repeats as district champion and then captures the sectional crown on its home field, defeating Cliffside Park, 10-0 in four innings. The game is stopped for the blowout rule when John Buccinio leads off the home fourth with a home run on the first pitch he sees from Jeremy Winter. The Americans advance to the state finals in Gloucester City, but lose two straight games there.
A fall program begins, giving players entering their 9- to 12-year-old seasons the opportunity to keep playing after the regular season and further develop skills that will help them come the spring regular season.
