The Parish Health Ministry brings together health professionals and lay volunteers who work interdependently to promote health
and provide helpful services within the parish community.
Mission Statement
The Parish Nurse Program of Saint Peter Parish furthers the healing mission of Jesus Christ and reinforces the connection
between health and spirituality.
Inherent to this mission is the belief that the health status of a parish community is essential to parish life and that
wellness is an element of our spiritual journey.

Blood Pressure Screenings
Last weekend of every month - next screening Sat, Jun 28

The first topic is directed to those adults who have ever had chickenpox (9 out of 10 of you). Shingles, or herpes zoster,
develops when the virus that causes chickenpox is reactivated, perhaps by a decreased immune system or stress. Of the one
million people in the United States who get shingles, nearly half are over the age of 60. If you have had chickenpox, there
is no way to predict if you will get shingles. It will simply appear without obvious signs, symptoms or warning.
The good news is there is medical treatment available for the symptoms of shingles. The better news is a vaccine is available
for temporary immunity of approximately 4 years. The best news is chickenpox, which can lead to shingles, may eventually be
wiped out, as in the case of small pox. Contact your physician for additional information.
The Parish Health Ministry's bulletin board, in the
hallway, features the theme of home gardening this month. Not only may we enjoy the fruits of our labor and save money, studies
indicate we may improve and increase muscle mass, enhance blood circulation and overall assist our bodies with healing and
recovery.
"Food for thought" - gardening enhances physical
and psychological well-being and puts fresh, homegrown food on your table!
