From the Principal’s Desk

We are winding down to the end of the school year.  As we near the end, things seem to speed up and get even busier with the award ceremonies, field trips, and athletic events.  I want to thank all of you for your help and support this year and encourage you to continue to willingly use your gifts to serve the Lord.

Let’s finish the year strong and encourage our children to use their God-given gifts to His glory.

I also want to thank everyone who has handed in a pre-registration form for next year.  If you have not yet done so, please take the time to fill it out.  If you need another copy, feel free to come into the office for another copy.

We hope and pray to have everyone back next year.  If you would like to sit down and talk with me at any time, you are welcome.  Please contact me to set up a time.

I also want to encourage you to spread the word in the community about our school.  We would love to have some new faces in our midst for the 2008-2009 school year.

Meijer Rewards

Salem recently received a check from Meijer for $142.76!  Thanks to all who participate in this program.

Thank you also to all who save Campbell’s soup labels, box tops for education coupons, and Spartan labels.  Every one of these items makes a difference!

Warm Weather Attire

Shorts may be worn to school beginning May 1st.  Please make sure that they are a proper length; the handbook states “mid thigh”.

Also, sleeveless shirts are allowed, but no tank tops. (Use the four finger rule).

Sandals which fit securely with a back strap are allowed.  No backless shoes or flip-flops.

CEF Stamps

WELS Church Extension Fund stamps will be for sale each Tuesday until the end of the school year.

I will be making up some sort of statements this month showing balances for those who have partially filled booklets.

Teacher Appreciation Day

We will be celebrating Salem’s teachers and staff at a PTO sponsored “Breakfast for Champions” brunch on Wednesday, May 7th.

Students and teachers, please wear Red, White and Blue on this day.

If you would be willing to provide a dish, help serve the food, or assist in any way, please contact Amy Feinauer.

From the Library

The last week for our students to check out books from our library is this week (April 28th - May 2nd.)  Please make a concerted effort to unearth all misplaced books since an average of 60 books per year are never returned.

Many thanks go to Texanne Turk and Bonita Morecroft for managing the library this year.

C.M.L.A.L. Field Day

Field Day is Friday, May 9th at Kersley High School.  Students should arrive at school by 8:00AM and go to their classrooms as usual.  At 8:30 the students will meet in the gymnasium and should bring all items needed for the day.   The students and drivers will be addressed before traveling to Field Day.

All students in grades 5-8 received Event Selection sheets.  The children are to rate the events by number from most preferred to least preferred.  This helps to assign events to each child.  Children may participate in a maximum of three events.  The relay is a bonus event.  We will have tryouts for the relay team.  Assignments will be given to the students soon.

Wear Red for Field Day.

Hot Lunch

The last Open Lunch Day for this school year will be May 13th.  It has been wonderful to see the way so many of you have made it to these luncheons.  The children really enjoy showing their school pride to family and friends.

Spring Concert

Salem students from the Junior Choir, Praise Chorus, Cardinal Band and 5th Grade Wind Ensemble are busy preparing selections for the Spring Concert.  The in-school concert will be held on Thursday, May 8 at 1:30 P.M.  The evening concert will be held on Sunday, May 11 at 7:00 P.M.  Both concerts will be held in the gym.  All are invited to watch our students perform.

Thank you to all the parents and students that took part in this year’s Pioneer program.

The last ice cream sale for this school year will be May 20th.

The awards program for grades 3-8 will be held on Monday, May 19 at 6:30 P.M. in the school gym. Awards will be presented to students who have participated in various sporting, music, and academic events.  Congratulations to all award recipients!

Thank You PTO!

Thank you Salem Lutheran P.T.O. for all the gifts given to school recently.  A donation was given to bring in Denise Brennan-Nelson for Reading Month, another for the roller skating party for Reading Month, and most recently for Teacher Appreciation Week which is coming up next week as well as the awards banquet to take place later this month.

Thank you to all who participate by giving their time and talents for the benefit of the students of Salem Lutheran School.
